DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs and assists junior staff in producing maps, reports, analyzes and applications to support users of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Organizes GIS projects by determining scope, schedules, and resource requirements.  Communicates with clients to resolve issues or alterations while performing quality control.  Develops complex applications and geoprocessing tasks to support GIS users as well as operations users.  Utilizes ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and makes use of Python, Arcade and SQL scripting to author code as well as associated documentation.  Consults with users to determine geospatial needs.  Develops and implements data topology methods and procedures.  Provides technical training and support to staff and users.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS     

  • The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
  • This is a Department of Houston Public Works Management position at the Tier II level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 
Requires an Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science, Geography, Computer Science, Management of Information Science or a closely related field.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of professional experience working with a comprehensive geographic information system are required.
  • Professional experience working with a comprehensive geographic information system may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
