SUMMARY

The Senior GIS Analyst is a key contributor to United’s mission of expanding and optimizing fiber and telecom networks across Middle Tennessee. This role blends advanced geospatial expertise with practical planning acumen, driving the design and execution of network expansions that meet both immediate project needs and long-term strategic goals. Working collaboratively with engineering, construction, and leadership teams, the Senior GIS Analyst leverages mapping technology, data analysis, and innovative problem-solving to deliver reliable connectivity solutions. Success in this position requires a balance of technical proficiency, thoughtful judgment, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable, real-world plans.

 

POSITION SCHEDULE AND ONSITE REQUIREMENTS

This is a full-time, direct-hire position based at our Murfreesboro, TN office. Hybrid flexibility will be offered after the training period.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Take ownership of planning fiber network expansions, applying deep understanding of local geography, infrastructure, and community needs to deliver practical, effective solutions.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, construction, and field teams, as well as third-party automated design systems and external partners, to ensure plans are realistic, actionable, and seamlessly integrated with automated network design outputs.
  • Assess project requirements and constraints, balancing technical specifications, budget limitations, and regulatory guidelines to develop achievable deployment strategies.
  • Review and interpret as-built documentation, field notes, and survey data to refine plans and address unforeseen challenges before construction begins.
  • Select optimal fiber routes by evaluating terrain, existing utilities, rights-of-way, and future growth potential, always prioritizing reliability and service quality.
  • Utilize advanced coding and AI-driven analysis to model network scenarios, identify planning efficiencies, and optimize fiber deployment strategies.
  • Facilitate planning meetings with stakeholders, clearly communicating project goals, timelines, and potential risks to ensure alignment and buy-in.
  • Prepare high-quality maps and documentation that support permitting, construction, and long-term maintenance, ensuring all plans are clear and actionable.
  • Monitor project progress, proactively adjusting plans to accommodate unexpected developments and maintain momentum toward completion.
  • Serve as a resource for best practices in telecom and fiber planning, mentoring team members and sharing insights gained from hands-on experience.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in GIS or a related technical field.
  • 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in GIS. 
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with AutoCAD Map3D (eLation Mapping) or ESRI ArcGIS Software Suite (Desktop, Pro, Online, Enterprise, Apps).
  • Experience in telecom/fiber network planning or deployment.
