Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and maintains GIS-based Public Works maps. Maps the location of Public Works assets in the field using GPS equipment and GIS software. Collects digital photographs and other asset attributes in the field and enters them into GIS and asset management databases.
  • Conducts mapping research, in the field and in the office, to resolve conflicting information and ensure the accuracy of the GIS data and mapping products.
  • Reviews and interprets construction and record engineering drawings to update Public Works GIS and attribute data. 
  • Conducts queries and analyses using spatial and non-spatial databases to assist with day-to-day issues and public inquiries.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the Asset Management and Work Order Systems, including mobile applications. Assists personnel in field assessments of Public Works assets utilizing mobile technology. Trains personnel in the use of the Asset Management and Work Order Systems, and filtering and reporting functions.
  • Performs Webslinger duties updating Public Works’ web pages in coordination with Public Works and Community Relations staff.
  • Creates ArcGIS Online maps for reference and data collection initiatives.
  • Identifies and resolves complex hardware and software issues by working with system users, vendor support staff, IT and GIS staffs.
  • Responds to customer requests from both Town staff and the public for Public Works- specific GIS data, copies of engineering-related documents, including record drawings, asset specific data and inspection information.
  • Identifies and suggests ways to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • This position is part of the Town's snow removal program. Will have scheduled on-call responsibilities through the winter months to remove snow using a 4-wheel drive pickup and/or heavy equipment. Snow removal shifts are typically 12 hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field

Experience: One to three (1-3) years’ practical and relevant experience with asset management systems, geodatabases, ArcGIS, GPS surveying, database development and design; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Licenses and/or Certifications: Valid Colorado Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with symbols and terminology used in civil, architectural, or electronic engineering drawings.
  • Skill in working with ArcGIS, performing GPS surveying, database development, maintenance and design.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software, such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS PRO, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps/Collector and Microsoft SQLServer, including geodatabase design and management.
  • Working knowledge of asset management software.
  • Ability to become familiar with industry-specific terminology and operations.
  • Ability to use spreadsheet, presentation and word processing software.
  • Skill in developing training documents, including presentation slide development, handout development, and an ability to present technical and training related information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Communication skills to communicate orally with customers and clients in face-to-face and one-on-one settings or over the telephone.
  • Ability to enter data into a computer terminal, PC, mobile devices or other keyboard device requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand-eye movement for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to drive to and physically access field sites to utilize GPS technologies to perform field data collection.

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work for long periods of time
  • Occasional physical work including ability to move and lift equipment weighing up to 10 lbs. 
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens

Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment

Equipment Used: 

Uses general modern office equipment, to include, keyboard, 10-key adding machines, and telephones 
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment

Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and fingerprint analysis prior to commencing employment.
