The Performance Analytics/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internship program provides students of graduate and undergraduate Analytics/GIS related studies with professional experience in a public sector organization. This is part-time employment in the Analytics/GIS field as a complement to the student’s studies. Upon completion of the internship program, the student should have received adequate training and experience for an entry-level Analytics/GIS role.
Scheduling/Availability
- GIS interns may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during the school year, but may be permitted to work a full-time schedule during summer, winter and spring breaks subject to the approved budget
- The successful candidate must be available to work in-person at the City of Dublin, Ohio offices (no remote opportunities available)
Intern Pay Structure
Undergraduate freshman: $17.00/hour
Undergraduate sophomore: $17.50/hour
Undergraduate junior: $18.00/hour
Undergraduate senior: $18.50/hour
First year graduate student: $19.50/hour
Second year graduate student: $21.00/hour

Interns are expected to perform responsible, entry-level work involving GIS data creation and related products and services.
Specific areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the city to build data products and services
- Design and maintain dashboards and mapping applications for customer needs using configurable GIS software (i.e. Power BI, Esri ArcGIS Online, and Experience Builder). Training will be provided for these platforms, basic GIS knowledge is needed with curiosity and willingness to learn new tools.
- Producing printed and virtual products such as maps, data dashboards, and analysis reports
- Editing existing datasets using heads-up digitizing in an Esri ArcGIS environment
- Field data collection and editing using GPS units and tablets
- Assist in data quality testing
- Assist in trouble-shooting customer issues and customer training
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree/certification seeking program in the Analytics/GIS field, or in another field with an interest in analytics, mapping, and/or local government
- Completing of at least one (1) course in the analytics/GIS related discipline
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Have reliable transportation and ability to work on-location at the City of Dublin, Ohio offices (no remote opportunities available)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior GIS or other related experience (professional, volunteer, student, etc.)
- Successful candidates often have prior experience in an office environment and / or prior experience with GIS, graphic/rendering software, report writing, customer service, and/or project management
- Ideal candidates are willing to share ideas in a collaborative team environment, are eager to learn, and have the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage deadlines with minimal supervision
Supplemental Information: All positions within this job classification have been designated as Casual in nature and all employees serving in such positions are considered to be Casual Employees. Casual employees serve strictly at the pleasure of the City and their employment may be terminated at any time for any reason, with or without cause.
