Part-Time GIS Technician

The individual in this position reports directly to the GIS Project Manager. The Part-Time GIS Technician supports the Authority’s enterprise GIS by maintaining and quality‑controlling GIS data and map layers; producing maps and basic spatial products; supporting field operations with GNSS data collection and mobile mapping; coordinating with the Engineering department to keep infrastructure records aligned with GIS; and assisting with user support and basic training for GIS web, desktop, and mobile tools. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs periodic field visits to support GIS and Operational Technology functions, including GNSS surveying, locating and validating field assets, deploying and troubleshooting mobile solutions with field staff, and coordinating tasks with various departments. Requires proficiency in operating survey equipment and providing technical troubleshooting in the field.
  • Responsible for quality assurance of GIS data and associated layers and for producing maps/spatial products to meet customer requests. Duties include: mapping and maintaining multiple layers using source documents to ensure accuracy and completeness of spatial and attribute data; performing basic spatial analyses and attribute queries with GIS tools; generating, printing, and publishing system utility, property, and other requested maps; ensuring linked database elements retain proper integrity.
  • Provides technical assistance and assists with training in the full use, configuration, and operation of GIS web, desktop, and mobile solutions; supports the GIS web portal and mobile mapping; responds to inquiries about missing or incomplete data; instructs users on retrieving and viewing documents in the portal; assists in training staff to interpret source documents; and develops and updates task-focused training materials.
  • Performs other routine duties in support of the Operational Technology department as needed.

 

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in a closely related field; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of CAD, GIS software and Microsoft Office.
