The Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians is excited to announce an opening for a dynamic and dedicated GIS Analyst to become an integral part of our team. This is a full-time position located in our headquarters, and it is not a remote job. The successful candidate will join the Real Estate Services Department, emphasizing our commitment to leveraging geographic information system (GIS) technologies to support various tribal programs and initiatives.
Reporting to the Director of Real Estate Services, the GIS Analyst will play a crucial role in conducting spatial analyses and creating detailed maps to fulfill the diverse needs of tribal departments. The analyst will also be responsible for generating sophisticated imaging products and maintaining various web applications to aid in the smooth operation and management of tribal lands and resources.
Duties and Responsibilities- Creation of maps for reports and contracts, ensuring high accuracy and compliance with requirements.
- Spatial Analysis and statistical reporting for environmental assessments, project reviews, and project planning processes.
- Implement and execute drone program functions including Drone Policy, equipment maintenance, drone flights, and data collection/processing.
- Maintain timber stand polygons and timber inventory changes in related databases.
- Creation of interactive mapping applications of Tribal data for the exploration and mapping use of Tribal programs such as property information, fire location and growth, infrastructure, easements, etc.
- Create and update online field maps used for data collection in remote areas.
- Responsible for monitoring, editing, transforming, and reclassifying data collected by field workers into appropriate databases and assist in collecting field data as needed.
- Coordination of equipment check out by field staff.
- Use ArcGIS Online Storymaps to create compelling visual communication for internal and external purposes.
- Creation of custom Orthomosaics, Digital Terrain Models, Digital Elevation Models, 3D Point Clouds, 3D meshes with drone images.
- Use scripting languages and ModelBuilder to automate processes.
- Assist the Director of Real Estate Services with additional tasks as needed.
- GIS/GISP Certification OR Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Planning, Natural Sciences, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro in a GIS Technician (or equivalent) role with applied cartography, database management, and spatial analysis.
- FAA SUAS License and experience in drone-based data collection/processing.
- 2+ years of experience leveraging AGOL Web Applications for end-user operation (e.g., ArcGIS Dashboards, Story Maps, and Experiences).
- Experience writing/operating Python and SQL scripts to automate processes.
- 1-2 years of experience working with drone-based imagery and processing software (Agisoft Metashape).
- Experience/knowledge in a complementary field to GIS (planning, natural resources, forestry).
- General understanding of forest mapping and inventory, familiarity with FPS, FVS, or like software.
- Capacity to troubleshoot and solve technical problems for office and field staff.
- Strong professional, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation, and a willingness to work with teams to meet staffs' needs and project schedules.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, ethical.
- Current valid Oregon Drivers' License.
