This job delivers outdoor recreation programs and conservation land management including planning, operations, special events and volunteer coordination.  Geospatial tools are foundational to delivery of the land management systems that are under the supervision of this position.  Outdoor recreation programs include single-track trails, camping and special events. 

This position is the lead planner and manager of 175 miles of single track trails that traverse hundreds of thousands of acres of conservation land in the Sonoran Desert. Geospatial data management and analytics are key to identifying opportunities for new trails, repair of existing trails, planning for regional connectivity and coordination with collaborative land owners including State and Ferderal lands.  This position supervises 1 full-time employee, coordinates on a daily basis with park operations managers within the Conservation Lands Department, and leads a team of 100 trail volunteers. 

The Natural Resources Program Manager also coordinates with vendors to host trail runs and mountain bicycle races.  Geospatial data analytics informs the balance of recreation and stewardship of conservation lands in a way that sets the department's approach to outdoor recreation programming including how large of a trail race may be accommodated, where the race may be held, and how many races we host each year. Other special events include weddings, corporate retreats, film production - all within trail heads and picnic areas inside natural resource parks that are part of Pima County's conservation lands system.

The Natural Resources Program Manager is part of a team that provides land stewardship for 250,000 acres of Pima County's conservation lands.  The position is in the Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division in Pima County's Conservation Lands and Resources Department.  The parks operated include Tucson Mountain Park, Agua Caliente Park, the Historic Canoa Ranch and Tortalita Mountian Park.  The Natural Resources Program Manager reports to the Divsion Manager that leads the Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division.
