Position Summary

Establish and maintain BIM standards for MAC, consultant, and tenant use. Lead and oversee the AutoCAD to Revit transition, coordinating with staff and consultants. Review the data, update the models and maintain the asset database in accordance with the established MAC standards. Create, maintain, and administer BIM central models and their use in alignment with MAC’s Consultant Master Agreements terms regarding use of data. Establish protocols for sharing BIM and GIS data and oversee regularly scheduled updates. Maintain as-built library, with staff support. Coordinate with eGIS staff, Asset Management, and other departments’ GIS staff to develop level of detail captured in BIM models to support work orders, maintenance CIP projects, etc.

Position Description

Technical

  • Develop, document, and maintain standards, processes, procedures, and workflows for BIM.
  • Maintain processes, procedures, and workflows for BIM integration into e-GIS models, in collaboration with e-GIS staff.
  • Develop BIM vision with input from internal stakeholders to ensure the vision is as inclusive as possible to the full range of departmental and external consultant needs.
  • Act as the subject matter expert responsible for incorporating BIM into MAC projects.
  • Manage consultant and stakeholder effort including creating and reviewing models and integrating final phased deliverables into overall MAC BIM model(s).
  • Establish new processes and BIM and GIS implementation for project teams.
  • Collaborate with the IT division and other departments’ staff to manage companywide and departmental BIM and GIS platforms.
  • Collaborate with IT division to develop relevant technology plans to support BIM and GIS workflows for our team members.
  • Monitor and reconcile project teams’ submittal data related to BIM and GIS and asset tracking, with staff support.
  • Oversee collection and QA/QC of data for facilities and infrastructure. This may include, but is not limited to, the following activities:
  • Review and integrate spatial data (building spaces, hardscape/softscape, landscape, infrastructure and security features) to BIM and GIS platforms.
  • Review and integrate equipment data from completed As-Builts to BIM and GIS platforms.
  • Manage and maintain as-built information related to projects. 
  • Review consultant submitted data to ensure compliance with MAC standards.
  • Work with internal client teams to develop BIM and GIS scope of services as requested.
  • Coordinate hardware requirements and procurement for BIM and GIS workstations with IT.
  • Proof documents for thoroughness and accuracy. 

Departmental

  • Provide technical expertise and staff assistance as requested. 
  • Provide effective credible representation of the department’s activities to the general public, airport users, airport tenants, consultants, contractors, and when necessary, the committee structure of the Commission. 
  • Participate in Airport Development continuing consultant annual performance reviews.

People Leadership

  • Provide work direction to subordinates and assist in the resolution of complex assignments.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled communication sessions with staff to discuss work activities, goals and gather employee feedback.
  • Exercise supervisory authority in accordance with MAC Human Resource Policy and the MAC Administration Manual.
  • Communicate clear performance expectations and standards to direct report employees, provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews and recognize employee achievement.

Education Requirements (must have one of the following)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field and 10 years CAD/GIS/BIM work experience related to designing and constructing projects.
  • Associate's degree in building information modeling or a related program and 12 years of CAD/GIS/BIM work experience related to designing and constructing projects.
  • 14 years of CAD/GIS/BIM work experience related to designing and constructing projects with an increasing level of responsibility.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience modeling in Revit and AutoCAD for medium to large scale complex campus type projects.
  • Experience translating 2D information or existing site conditions into 3D BIM model.
  • Experience translating coordinate systems and datums.
  • Experience managing a modeling or similar team.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk products including Navisworks, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, Adobe, ESRI suite including ArcGIS Server, Portal, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with design and construction teams.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills that include the ability to integrate required data parameters into BIM model to support asset management goals and to extract and present data from BIM model in clear and understandable way to stakeholders.
  • Ability to proactively identify conflicts, incomplete or ambiguous design information as well as identify, rank, and resolve risk through mitigation strategies such as decision analysis.
  • Ability to strategically plan, organize, and coordinate programs.

Desirable Requirements

  • Commercial airport project experience 
  • Knowledge of FAA Imaginary Surfaces, airspace restrictions, clearance, and requirements, FAA’s Airport Layout Plan and the FAA Electronic ALP (eALP) program.
  • Knowledge of asset management principles, public conformance to federal requirements, and asset management software systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable FAA advisory circulars and regulations.
  • Knowledge of airport security and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations, particularly related to data security. 

Other Information
This position provides an opportunity for on-site and remote work. MAC's remote work policy requires employees to be on-site three days of the week. Among the three on-site days, one of them must be either a Monday or a Friday.
