The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a summer Intern to provide support with technical assistance on regional active transportation planning data. The student in this position will assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to help develop insights and create maps, reports, and presentations. This internship will provide valuable experience in planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Ideal candidates should live within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region and be able to work at least 20 - 25 hours a week from approximately mid-May to mid-August 2026. Continuing employment opportunities may be available for Interns who are successful in this position and live in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Working with supervisor to create and edit maps and spatial data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Working with supervisor to update the regional network of existing, funded, and planned trails and on-street bikeways
- Assisting with the research of regional network trail names, digitizing bike facility alignments, and updating network topology
- Working with supervisor to compile and summarize studies and drafting reports for supervisor review
- Drafting and preparing documents such as presentations, public outreach content, and education materials for supervisor review
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Basic knowledge of GIS principles and the ESRI ArcGIS Pro platform
- Good communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal and analytical skills, with ability to listen to instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline driven environment without diminishing quality of work
Required Education and Experience
- Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
- No work experience required
- At least one year of school-related experience
Starting Salary
Minimum of $17.10 per hour
