An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a GIS Intern to join our growing Geospatial team in Vernon Hills and Schaumburg, IL.
How you will make an impact:
The GIS Intern will report to the Division Director and will be involved in GIS data collection, cartography, data creation and maintenance, and web application services. This role is an non-exempt, hourly, position.
Responsibilities:
- Support project managers with project mapping.
- Conduct and coordinate field data collection using Global Positioning System (GPS) units, and various analytical tasks.
- Create GIS maps.
- Create and update GIS features and web maps.
- Responsible for meeting assigned project goals and objectives and ensuring on schedule accurate completion.
- Ensure that the company policies and procedures are practiced during employment.

What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc
Education:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or related field.
Experience:
- Valid driver’s license
- Self-starter
- Strong attention to detail
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Detail-oriented individual who takes pride in producing high-quality individual work products.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a larger team.
- Self-starting, detail-oriented individual, with organizational and interpersonal skills.
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn about firm business and the industry.
- The ability to manage multiple projects.
- Clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Planner, Teams).
