This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a GIS Analyst to support our Mapping & Analysis team in our Austin, TX office. The following locations will also be considered: Pittsburgh, PA. The selected candidate would join a team of more than 2000 environmental professionals across the U.S. Through our Earth & Environment Division, WSP provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment and corrective action services to clients worldwide. Across multiple industries, our diverse staff specializes in the areas of siting/routing, air, water, waste, ecological and cultural resources throughout our many offices located across the country and internationally.
Your Impact
- Provide mapping and analysis support for routing and siting, impact assessment, and analysis for natural gas pipelines and high voltage electric transmission lines.
- Pprovide support for projects including:
- Spatial data collection
- Evaluation
- Compilation
- Creation
- Conversion
- Cuerying
- Processing
- Analysis
- cartographic design and map production
- Perform practical Geodatabase design, creation, and maintenance; compile metadata and data documentation; and provide technical support for coordinate/projection on information and related issues.
- Assist technical staff and project managers by offering input and analysis with low-level threat mitigation activities, master planning, and permitting activities.
- Work with cross-functional teams, CADD, and other technicians in executing project work.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Resource Management, or related field with a specialization in GIS
- 1 to 3 years professional experience with ArcGIS
- Consulting experience with linear utility routing and siting projects
- Experience providing GIS analysis for a State and/or Federal environmental process
- Trimble GPS data collection & Processing Software
- Presentation-quality cartographic skills (portfolio examples are welcome)
- Analytical skills and prior experience with research techniques, modeling data, scanning and digitizing files, and experience maintaining records and databases with assigned projects required.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Candidate should be a self-starter with the desire and ability to take the lead on a task and possess the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, web mapping applications and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Strong general computer skills (troubleshooting/problem solving)
- Proficiency in Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail

- ArcPro experience
- AutoCAD or Microstation experience
- ArcGIS Online Experience
