MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED; Associate’s or technical degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, or closely related field is preferred; supplemented by three (3) years of previous experience and/or training in mapping, GIS systems, drafting, or related field; Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s license.
Knowledge of the geography of the county including major roadways, streets, city boundaries, and other elements preferred. Experience with ESRI’s software suite preferred.

NATURE OF WORK: The purpose of this classification is to perform technical work associated with the development, operation, and maintenance of the County’s Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Transportation and Development Department.

SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Operates computer and related software applications, interprets and assesses spatial information for accuracy and completeness; have knowledge of cartography principles. Reads and interprets surveys and legal descriptions to identify parcels and other land features: research and resolve land record issues. Respond to requests from engineers and other related parties regarding mapping, boundary, or map feature questions; assist department staff with identification and documentation of deeds and features; complies and index department records. Prepare and update various system files; maintains databases of geocoded information; maintains standard departmental maps. Converts raw data and data from other organizations into graphical formats for inclusion in GIS system. Create hard copies of maps, prepares drawings of customized features to convey data. Provides support to users including intensive application training, information, support, and assistance regarding software applications, computer operations, procedures, problems, upgrades and other related issues. Provides input and/or performs research on software and equipment purchases. Diagnoses/repairs problems related to application operation and processing, troubleshoots errors with software and other peripherals. Communicate with supervisors, employees, users, other departments, vendors, outside companies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities’ review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
