SUMMARY
The GIS Technician duties and responsibilities include entry-level, technical geospatial work primarily related to water resources/utility operations data development, data and system maintenance, help desk/troubleshooting and agency-wide GIS support tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Spatial data development, attribute population, data maintenance, QA/QC & metadata creation, primarily of horizontal/linear assets for utilities (water & wastewater) operations, and land assets data (easements, leases, deed ownership, etc.).
· Geo reference and digitize data from static sources, such as as-built plans/record drawings, plat maps, surveys (ability to interpret metes & bounds legal descriptions), aerial images and/or historical maps.
· Conversion of CAD data to GIS.
· Review new or existing data for accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness.
· Assist with maintaining up-to-date GIS enterprise databases of GBRA infrastructure.
· Process spatial data through a defined workflow, from acquiring or creating raw data to publishing web map services.
· Organize and maintain spatial data and non-spatial documents following a defined structure and upholding consistent standards, including metadata.
· Create print maps, exhibits and other GIS information products to industry cartographic and GBRA graphic design standards.
· Collection of field data using mobile device/GPS technology (Field Maps; Eos Arrow series high-accuracy GNSS).
· Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
· Basic understanding of fundamental concepts related to GIS and associated technology.
· Working knowledge of Esri ArcGIS Pro 3+.
· Familiarity with Portal for GIS (Enterprise GIS), ArcGIS Online, and field/mobile collection applications (Esri Field Maps, Survey123, Quick Capture).
· Knowledge and/or interest in basic GIS programming languages and tasks (SQL, Python, Arcade) preferred but not required.
· Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal/communication skills.
· Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgement, and responsibility.
· Ability to research, troubleshoot and find appropriate training to learn new technology.
· Ability to take initiative in problem-solving and knowledge expansion related to GIS.
· Attention to detail.
· Effective written and oral communication skills.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
Some college level coursework in GIS and its basic applications. Undergraduate degree or certificate in GIS preferred.
