General Purpose
Perform a variety of full performance, working level skilled technical duties associated with the implementation, operation, and maintenance of county (GIS) geographic information systems.
Supervision Received
Work under the general supervision of the GIS Manager.

Essential Functions
Provide on the job training to less experienced Technicians; take the lead on assigned projects.
Research, collect, interpret, and analyze county property descriptions, deeds, plats, maps, geographic information, and other related records for incorporation into the Geographic Information System; enter data into GIS system from legal documents.
Verify accuracy and completeness of information and resolve problems with the appropriate department staff or GIS Manager. May make routine adjustments and corrections when appropriate.
Enter information into the GIS database from documents and other sources by using coordinate geometry, transfer spatial data from other sources, scan and digitize information from paper maps and direct keying.
Integrate graphics and related data into the geographic information system by allocating information to appropriate levels, create links to related information and apply correct color coding, styles, etc. Including creating/designing web content from GIS data for county and public use.
Respond to routine requests for information and reports; assist department personnel in accessing GIS information; operate various peripheral devices such as printers and plotters to produce output for use by GIS and various other county departments and other organizations as required.
Ability to maintain regular, reliable patterns in work product and attendance according to Bonneville County's expectations.
Perform other job- related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Education and Experience:
A. Associate degree with course work in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, Geography or other related field including training in the use of and computer aided drafting or mapping;
AND
B. Two (2) years of responsible work experience in a related field;
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of Intergraph GIS software; ESRI; Parcel Drafter or mapping principles and techniques; coordinate geometry. Some knowledge of surveying and global positioning systems and techniques and documents related to real property descriptions.
Ability to understand and apply complex detailed instructions; read and interpret detailed maps, blueprints and complex legal documents, perform complex mathematical computations; operate computer workstation; work independently; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; develop effective working relationships with department managers, staff and the general public.
3. Special Qualifications:
- Proficient in data entry operations
- Highly proficient keyboard and 10-Key skills
4. Work Environment:
Work is performed in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, but do involve lifting, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, seeing and the ability to distinguish colors. Rapid work speed required to perform keyboard operations. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Tasks require some use of creative problem solving skills. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
While heavy lifting is not typically involved on a regular basis, employees may need to occasionally lift or move light items like boxes or files.
