The GIS TECHNICAN II position builds upon the foundational knowledge of the GIS Technician I role by performing advanced GIS data development, cartography, and spatial analysis tasks with minimal supervision. This position is responsible for maintaining complex GIS datasets, producing high-quality maps and exhibits, conducting property research, and supporting countywide infrastructure projects. The role involves interdepartmental collaboration, quality control, and coordination with the assigned department, property, and utilities divisions
- Research, compile, and verify property and land information in response to inquiries from property owners, title companies, and government agencies. Review and interpret deeds, surveys, and plats to support data gathering, departmental projects, and mapping needs.
- Utilize ESRI ArcGIS PRO software to compile, edit, and maintain spatial and attribute data for various departmental and countywide GIS databases.
- Design, update, and produce thematic, analytical mapping for internal use, legal requests, projects, and official presentation purposes.
- Incorporate aerial imagery and external data sources into maps and applications, ensuring technical and visual accuracy across deliverables.
- Edit and maintain assigned department and County GIS layers. Convert and integrate data from multiple formats (CAD, survey, GPS) into GIS shapefiles, and perform parcel size and spatial calculations as needed.
- Maintain and update the GIS Service Request database and associated documentation, ensuring procedures and workflows remain current.
- Prepare and maintain metadata, data dictionaries, and procedural documentation. Conduct quality assurance and control reviews to ensure data accuracy and system integrity.
- Conduct abstract and title research; prepare accurate legal descriptions using electronic data retrieval systems. Perform spatial analyses to ensure precision of the county base map and cadastral data.
- Create detailed graphic renderings and exhibits for public hearings and other advisory boards.
- Respond to and coordinate GIS service requests across departments; provide technical assistance and mapping support to various divisions.
- Support training, mentoring, and onboarding of GIS Technician I staff.
- Troubleshoot GIS-related issues in collaboration with developers, systems administration, and IT staff.
- Knowledge in maintaining and operating a GPS Trimble unit, field work in GPSing assets in the field.
- Participate in training and professional development to enhance GIS and data management competencies.
- Perform a variety of tasks and assist with special projects as assigned.
- Regular attendance and punctuality.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, preferred.
Experience:
2–4 years of professional GIS experience (3+ years in a municipal, planning, or utility environment preferred).
A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the Clerk’s discretion.
Licenses/Certificates:
Valid Florida Driver License.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Computer, copier, phone and various other technology equipment.
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog).
- Familiarity with Lucity, AutoCAD, and Trimble GPS workflows preferred.
- Strong understanding of spatial data management, coordinate systems, and cartographic principles.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction); acceptable hearing (with or without correction); ability to access, input and retrieve information from a personal computer; ability to sit for long periods of time; ability to communicate orally in order to answer questions in person and over the telephone; ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time; ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to operate hand and power tools and to handle other computer components. Walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment. Work closely with others. Must have reliable transportation which employee may be required to use if a County vehicle is not available. Flexible hours with occasional on-call/after-hours availability as needed. Travel as required.
