Essential FunctionsThis is an entry-level position ideal for candidates with foundational GIS knowledge and technical curiosity who are eager to grow within a professional utility environment. This position works under general supervision of a Senior GIS Analyst and performs a variety of mapping, data processing, geospatial analysis and other tasks assigned to fulfill both internal and external functions supporting water system operations, maintenance, and planning.
Minimum QualificationsAssociate’s degree (or higher) in GIS, geography or related field with GIS coursework, or any associate’s degree or higher combined with a GIS certificate, or equivalent education and experience required to perform basic GIS mapping and geospatial data management; familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online); proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel); ability to multi-task in a timely and efficient manner with strong attention to detail; and excellent communication and time management skills.
*Preference will be given to candidates with prior related work experience, especially involving utility operations; basic programming skill in one or more related scripting languages (e.g. Python, SQL, JavaScript, Arcade); or experience with GPS data collection tools or mobile GIS platforms (e.g. Collector, Field Maps).
Special Requirements: The qualified candidate must have the ability to pass pre-employment background check, have a valid Oregon driver’s license upon appointment and possess a satisfactory driving record. This is primarily an office-based position with occasional field work; must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and operate standard office equipment; and able to carry light field equipment (up to 20 lbs) and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Supplemental InformationCompensation and Benefits:
Compensation range is $30 to $40 per hour DOQ. SWA offers full benefits, including medical, vision and dental coverage, 11 paid holidays, short and long-term disability, and participation in the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
