Under basic supervision, this job classification utilizes GPS survey equipment to collect field data of the City's Water and Wastewater systems to import into the City's Geographic Information System (GIS); creates specialized digital maps and utility atlases; assists department staff with information request and the department's asset management program.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Uses real time survey GPS equipment to gather field data related to Utilities Department assets; performs duties as assigned, and within scope of authority; duties may vary according to work requests.
  • Collects data and publishes maps for data analysis and asset management program support.
  • Edits and creates specialized digital and printed maps and geo-based data for department staff.
  • Maintains and updates standard digital Utility maps and atlases. 
  • Reviews and maintains department asset updates, and reviews engineering plans for accuracy of utility mapping and location data.
  • Documents work completed; maintains work log of service requests, equipment malfunctions, software errors and failures.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines 

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years current GIS and/or field survey experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of: 

  • Use of real time GPS survey equipment.
  • Industry standard GIS, ESRI, and software products, procedures and protocols.
  • Capabilities of computer systems, including networked environments and peripheral devices.
  • Methods and procedures for computer based mapping using specialized software.
  • Customer service methods and techniques.
  • Water and Wastewater system operation and function.

 Skill in:

  • Working in a technical environment with interlinked and changing priorities. 
  • Using GIS / ESRI software suite programs and procedures.
  • ArcGIS Pro, ESRI's Utilities Network, and publishing of ArcGIS Online Maps.
  • Preparing drawings and maps, using standard GIS techniques.
  • Preparing technical reports.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients. 
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment; may occasionally be required to perform field survey work, lift objects, bend, stoop, crawl, and navigate tight spaces; requires use of hands; requires vision capacity at close range and ability to differentiate between colors.
