Performs complex professional, analytical, and technical work in the implementation, development, maintenance, enhancement, and presentation of spatial geographic data, as related to the function of the Geographic Information Systems Department, and parcel mapping for Tax Listing and Appraisal. Also performs special mapping projects and parcel data maintenance for the Tax Department, as well as approved projects for other county agencies and the public. The position supports GIS users throughout the county and the public using existing county GIS applications and tools. Work is performed under the direction of the GIS Director.
Responsibilities- Parcel Mapping & Editing:
Update and modify Alamance County tax parcels using ESRI ArcGIS Pro, based on deeds, plats, and legal documents. Tasks include splitting, combining, or correcting boundaries. Parcel fabric knowledge a plus. - Research & Public Assistance:
Conduct property and deed research, maintain digitized parcel maps, assist the public, and prepare map adjustments for Land Records. - Rights of Way Updates:
Use NCDOT plans to update right-of-way information and maintain related records. - GIS Data Management:
Perform quality control, data imports, translations, and review of spatial data within the GIS system. - Support & Training:
Assist staff with mapping/data questions and help train less experienced GIS workers. - Map Creation & Presentation:
Design custom GIS maps, charts, and graphs for internal use and public presentations, including for the County Commissioners and other agencies. - Project Coordination:
Participate in planning and implementing special GIS projects and assist supported departments as needed. - Public Interaction & Problem Solving:
Requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interpret policies, and independent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Skills & AbilitiesEducation & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or Two-year degree with equivalent technical training in planning, geography, computer science, engineering, information systems, or a closely related field. Minimum of two (2) years of experience using GIS systems and relational database applications or applicable work in a related GIS environment.
Computer kills: Must be proficient with Intel-based PCs, and ESRI software (ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro), Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and have a working understanding of spreadsheets and databases. Desired experience includes Windows, Tax Systems, CAD-related software, Trimble GPS equipment, and property mapping methodology.
License/Credentials: Possession of a valid NC driver's license and the ability to maintain a safe driving history as defined by Alamance County policy.
