Launch your GIS career while making a meaningful impact on America's public lands. The GIS Stewards Program is a partnership between the National Park Service and Conservation Legacy that provides emerging GIS professionals with hands-on experience supporting national parks across the country.

Become a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Steward with the National Park Service (NPS)!

Opportunities with this program:

• Between 16-52 weeks
• Are available on a seasonal basis (recruited in February/March for June starts and June/July for October starts)
• Provide National Park-focused GIS Training and Development

This GIS Stewards program was created in 2020. It is partnership with the National Park Service and Conservation Legacy. To be eligible for these positions, you must be:

• 18-30 years old, up to 35 years old for veterans
• U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
• High School Diploma or GED*
• Past experience or academic study in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

*Most positions list two or more years of academic study in GIS as a qualification.

This program is nationwide. It provides interdisciplinary professional development experience in a unique NPS setting. Stewards develop critical GIS skills needed to succeed in the federal government. They will use geospatial technology to support a variety of park management operations. This includes:

• Natural and cultural resource preservation
• Planning and environmental compliance
• Facility asset and transportation management
• Visitor and resource protection
• Resource interpretation and visitor engagement
