GIS Specialist

The primary objectives of this position are to:  (1) Support ongoing GIS data development, spatial analysis and data visualization across of transportation and safety research projects; (2) Collect, analyze and interpret data, ensure quality control, and compile results in an organized, orderly format; (3) Create publication-quality maps and figures along with dashboards to effectively communicate study efforts and results and assist in the preparation of reports and presentations; (4) Work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate ideas, opinions and solutions related to current and future project activities.

Advertised Salary: $50,000+/DOE

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s with 3 years of experience, or 5 years of experience without a degree
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Strong background in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro
  • Knowledge of programming in Python, R or Visual Basic
  • Experience with dashboard development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ESRI Certification
  • Experience with spatial analysis
  • Experience working with Tribal governments
  • 2+ years of experience

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is a research, education, and outreach center at North Dakota State University which is guided, in part, by an advisory council composed of representatives of various organizations, industries, and agencies affecting or affected by transportation.
