JOB SUMMARY

Update, maintain, and evaluate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, develop custom maps and reports, update County websites, and provide support for GIS users under basic supervision.  

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Learn maintenance skills and techniques for managing the GIS program hardware, software, database, and servers. 
  • Review survey data, source maps, photographs, automated mapping products, and other records to determine data quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Use established GIS software programs, commands, and compilation methods to manipulate data and generate special purpose maps and GIS products.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining special purpose digital maps for County departments and public agencies as directed.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the County's GIS database according to department’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist in correcting data and making revisions in response to changes and additional data sets integrated into GIS.
  • Update component layers of GIS data.
  • Assist in training County staff, provide assistance to departments, clients, and the general public in obtaining information, and research and compile materials and maps.
  • Assist in compiling geographic data from a variety of sources.
  • Scan, rectify, and digitize data, edit and refine GIS data, update database, and perform quality control checks to assure data integrity.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  • Review Site Plans to ensure Pinal County Street Naming and Addressing Ordinances are adhered to
  • Review PLATs to ensure Pinal County Street Naming and Addressing Ordinances are adhered to
  • Create new, and maintain existing, address points to ensure accuracy of the address database utilizing GIS tools
  • Assist residents to resolve addressing questions and issues
  • coordinate with other County departments to ensure accuracy in the address database
  • Coordinate with outside agencies (Cities, USPS) to ensure accuracy in address databases throughout Pinal county and other systems
  • Coordinate with County departments to create and maintain street centerline data using GIS tools 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
  • Associate’s degree in Drafting, Computer Science, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience developing and maintaining a spatial database in an ESRI GIS program application.   
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Arizona residents must have an Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of GIS and CAD, including data compilation and conversion, database management systems, graphics applications and overlays, spatial models for computer analysis, and security guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of capabilities of computer systems, including networked environments, relational databases, and specialized software applications.
  • Knowledge of system access and security guidelines and standards.
  • Skill in developing, manipulating, and analyzing geographic information in a variety of data formats and projections.
  • Skill in interpreting technical instructions and analyzing complex variables.

  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.  The work also requires the ability to finger, reach, perform repetitive motion, hear, speak, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.

 WORK ENVIRONMENT:      

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
