GIS Intern Position
Facility Contract Services is a Florida based contract services company responsible for the employment and management of personnel for The City of Pembroke Pines. Facility Contract Services is currently seeking dynamic and goal-driven interns for the City of Pembroke Pines Technology GIS Division. The student assistant should have experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the ability to work with our GIS team under the direct supervision of one of our GIS specialists. Interns will participate with local public service projects, as well as making a difference in local government in the City of Pembroke Pines.The goal of this position is to provide the experience, repetition and guidance a college student needs to become a future GIS Professional via hands-on experience in the work environment. The GIS intern will assist with maintaining, updating, operating, preparing or completing various GIS/map data forms as required using geographic information system (GIS) software programs. This may include reports, correspondence, thematic maps, shapefiles, statistical analyses, presentation materials, or other documents. The intern will also assist in collecting, storing, updating, manipulating, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information; electronically manipulates data files by importing, exporting, creating, recalling, editing, or updating data or data descriptions, while also storing and/or retrieving archived data. This position will also involve collecting data in the field for certain projects when needed.
JOB DESCRIPTION

EXAMPLES OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Using ArcGIS Esri software and analysis for field and office research.
2. Monitor and assist with new and ongoing projects.
3. Perform data input and basic analysis for the department database
4. Provide technical support to senior staff members for other department projects
5. Work with GIS Specialists and a GIS Manager in an office environment.
6. Assist in field work data using ArcGIS Field Maps.
7. Perform any additional assignments and responsibilities including projects of their own.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
• No previous work experience is required.
• Prefer current college students or recent graduate candidates that are majoring in Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Must have verifiable GIS coursework in survey/mapping, geography, computer science or related field.
• Ability to analyze assigned problems, gather and organize data, and arrive at valid conclusions.
• Experience in GIS applications is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS Esri Software including ArcGIS Online, Maps, StoryMaps, and WebApps.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel which will be used for many projects.
• Able to work efficiently and effectively with other employees in an office environment.
• Ability to carry on responsibilities from supervisors.
• Able to complete tasks effectively in a timely manner.
• Ability to drive and have a registered drivers’ license.
Work Environment:
This position is considered both an in field and in office position. Most of the time the employee will be in the office, however, will spend a good portion of their longest day in the field gathering data. Exposure to hazards or risk of bodily injury, moderate noise, and dangers are low. Be prepared to endure heat and weather changes occasionally.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
