GIS INTERN POSITION

 

Minnkota Power Cooperative is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to join our team as a GIS Intern for the summer of 2026. The internship, located at our Grand Forks, ND offices, offers hands-on experience supporting the Power Delivery Engineering department.

The pay range for this internship begins at $24.95 per hour. Appropriate pay will be determined based on a candidate's level of completed education and relevant experience. This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

Position Summary

The GIS Intern position reports to the Transmission Engineering/GIS Manager. This position will assist the GIS department in the following duties:

  • Assist staff in updating and correcting geospatial data
    • Modify feature classes in an enterprise geodatabase
    • Edit attribute table data
    • Assist in GIS data entry and retrieval
  • Cartographic Tasks
    • Create maps and map series for projects
    • Update maps as needed
  • Run basic queries to extract records from datasets
  • Navigate Minnkota’s ERP system for asset information

Job Qualification Standards

Education and Training

  • Individual must have completed their Sophomore or Junior year of Geography or related field
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the ArcGIS software suite, including ArcGIS Pro, required
  • Experience with Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Online preferred
  • Ability to manage time effectively under time constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze information, and support development of plans
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to collaborate and present information to others

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors and will travel outdoors to multiple locations dependent on work.
