The City of Geneva is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Intern to support our Public Works utilities. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in Geographic Information Systems to gain hands-on experience working with municipal infrastructure data, including electric, water, and other utility systems. The GIS Intern will assist with mapping, data collection, and database maintenance to help ensure accurate and reliable information that supports daily operations and long-term planning for essential City services.
Examples of DutiesCandidates will work with our GIS team on these primary duties:
- Interpreting subdivision plats
- Entering easement data into the GIS
- Field data collection with a Leica GPS
- Updating GIS data
- Creating maps and exhibits
- Assisting with other various GIS projects
Qualified candidates will be currently enrolled, or recently graduated from a Geography, GIS, or other closely related bachelor’s degree program, or any combination of education, computer training, GIS/GPS experience. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is also required.
Supplemental InformationThe work hours are flexible to accommodate a student’s class schedule, but the Public Works office hours typically run from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. The position is anticipated to last through the summer, May - August, and exact start and end dates are flexible based on the candidate's availability with school.
