Performs general technical and administrative work to assist with the Utilities Department Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data. Work typically includes record research, data entry, and working in ESRI ArcGIS desktop software and records databases to develop GIS features. Work is performed under the supervision of the Utilities GIS Analyst and others as assigned. Employees are required to exercise some initiative and independent judgment in working toward a robust, comprehensive, and accurate Utility GIS Database.

- Responsible for research and documentation of GIS Utility features from a variety of data sources including but not limited to As Built/ record construction drawings or CAD files.
- Data entry in GIS database format for integration with current GIS data.
- Field data collection for capturing GIS data points as needed.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Student working towards a degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or another analytical discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience. Consideration shall be given to individuals that can demonstrate higher technical proficiencies (math, science and/or engineering).
Must be computer literate and be able to develop operational knowledge of GIS software including ESRI desktop suite (ArcGIS Pro software) and ArcGIS Online.
Must possess high degree of organization, record keeping ability and demonstrate willingness to learn.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida driver’s license.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of GIS database maintenance.
Knowledge of ArcGIS, ArcGIS online, and other ESRI GIS software with ability to use this software to update data, produce maps, conduct analyses, and generate reports.
Ability to read & interpret technical construction plans, specifications, codes, drafting and drawing techniques, symbols, terminology, and accepted standards used in preparing engineering drawings.
Ability to work independently in field GPS data collection and accurately integrate new features into GIS database.
Ability to work from oral and written instructions, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, management, contractors, consultants and the general public.
