What you'll be doing...:

The GIS System & Apps Team focuses on three strategic goals: Communicating the value of GIS, providing reliable, fast infrastructure and creating focused, easy to use mapping apps. This position will support business system integration projects to provide our portfolio of geospatial data and services with a variety of vendor platforms. The position will also have the opportunity to work on custom GIS application development.

• Revenue
• Sheriff’s Office
• Soil & Water

About Our Team:

Come thrive with us as a key player on the GIS Systems & Apps Team at Wake County GIS. We take pride in the quality of our applications, infrastructure and data. We cultivate partnerships with Wake County Departments and the NC GIS community. We participate in enterprise development efforts as well as quick turnaround asset inventory / field data collection efforts. We have grown a solid platform and are positioning ourselves to provide emerging technologies to help our customers realize the growing potential of GIS.

The Basics (required education and experience):

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and four years of experience in network or database design and administration, or systems analysis. Equivalent education and experience combination accepted.

Beyond the Basics (preferred education and experience):

  • Degree in GIS / Geography, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • 5 years of experience as a GIS Developer or Programmer, delivering progressively customized solutions
  • Experience managing Enterprise GIS: ArcGIS Server/ SDE Enterprise Geodatabase preferred
  • Ability to perform needs assessment, requirements gathering, project planning and monitoring using a frequent feedback loop with customers

  • The position requires the ability to build relationships with department customers to design solutions that meet business needs. We manage development projects in an informal agile style; gathering frequent feedback in the course of development projects

  • As you know, GIS requires tenacity and a willingness to keep up with emerging technologies. Ideally you thrive on this type of challenge
  • The position requires strong independent problem solving skills as well as the ability to collaboratively solve issues that may involve multiple technologies, teams and vendors
