Geocgi is looking for a GIS Developer to support geospatial system development efforts at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. This role focuses on designing and delivering modern web-based GIS applications, integrating complex spatial data, and optimizing performance across secure environments. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to enterprise geospatial capabilities in a multinational environment supporting mission-critical operations. This opportunity requires relocation to Brussels, Belgium.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy web-based GIS applications.
- Build interactive web mapping solutions using ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript and modern frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
- Implement and maintain web mapping functionality and user-facing applications.
- Integrate geospatial data through REST APIs across multiple data sources.
- Work with both classified and unclassified geospatial datasets.
- Perform geospatial data processing and conversion using Python (ArcPy, GeoPandas, GDAL, etc.).
- Develop and manage geospatial data models, layers, and map services.
- Support spatial ETL workflows and backend data pipelines.
- Configure map services for efficient web delivery and performance.
- Optimize backend queries and frontend rendering performance.
- Maintain technical documentation including code, system architecture, and service endpoints.
- Ensure applications meet security, usability, and accessibility standards.
- Work under the direction of the GIS Project Manager to support system development and maintenance.
- Provide knowledge transfer and technical support to internal staff.
- Contribute to additional technical projects as required.
As a candidate supporting NATO:

The following are requirements of the GIS Developer:
- U.S. Citizen and Active U.S. Passport
- Active DoD Secret Clearance or NATO Secret Clearance
- 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS, IT, or related field; or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree; or 2 years of experience with a PhD
- Minimum 5 years of experience in web development (JavaScript/HTML, React, Angular, or Vue)
- Hands-on experience with web mapping technologies (e.g., ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript)
- Strong experience using Python for geospatial processing (ArcPy, GeoPandas, GDAL, etc.)
- Experience building backend services or geospatial data processing pipelines
- Experience with REST API integration and spatial data workflows
- Familiarity with version control tools such as Git
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal, English)
The following are preferred of the GIS Developer:
- Experience working in NATO or similar multinational or defense environments.
- Familiarity with secure or classified data environments.
- Experience with performance tuning for web applications and map services.
- Understanding of geospatial data models and enterprise GIS architecture.
- Exposure to cloud-based GIS or hybrid environments.
- Basic proficiency in French.
The annual base salary range for this position is anticipated to be $130,000 - $140,000 USD. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position.
