Job Title: GIS Data Technician
Department: Engineering
Work Location: North Baldwin (Bay Minette, AL )
Job Type: Full Time
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Updates the system maps from staking sheets, engineering drawings, staking software, and field staff documentation using specific software and ensures complete and accurate data transfer to maps and all GIS databases.
- Provides support, troubleshooting, modifications, enhancements, and maintenance for existing GIS scripts and geoprocessing services.
- Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves GIS-related problems and end-user issues, and provides guidance on correcting reported problems.
- Imports land base/parcel data drawings into GIS database distribution maps from plat drawings or electrical drawings provided by staking, planning, and consulting firms or developers using AutoCAD/GIS software.
- Create drawings from AutoCAD or GIS software for construction, planning, staking, work order inspections, or special projects as requested.
- Analyzes and interprets data for producing maps, reports, and other documents.
- Compiles, manipulates, and integrates data from various sources for inclusion in mapping applications.
- Performs complex file conversions to utilize multiple mapping software applications.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years (3) or more of progressively responsible experience working with GIS systems and spatial data management.
- Proficient computer skills with software applications (Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook). Proficiency in modern office practices, procedures, systems, and equipment.
- Must know electrical theory. Ability to learn and understand the electrical distribution and construction process.
- Strong verbal and written communications.
- Valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions

- Travel to workshops to improve skills and stay abreast of new procedures and technologies.
