PRIMARY PURPOSE
To support the Pipeline Open Database Standard (PODS) compliant Geographic Information System (GIS) for Kinder Morgan.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the PODS database, Spatial Database Engine (SDE) database, and GIS Systems
- Maintain the pipeline alignment drawings and pipeline overlays
- Populate the PODS database from various sources
- Research Pipeline records, in-line inspection data, data discrepancies, as-built drawings, and related information
- Import pipeline data and reconcile data entry problems
- Extraction of data for various internal and external customers
- Communicate with Engineering, Operations, Business Development, as well as other groups across the entire company
- Prepare various maps, diagrams, charts, and other presentation drawings
*Depending on the candidates skill set and experience, this position could be filled at a different level
EDUCATION
- Associate Degree with experience in GIS software or pipeline databases
- GIS courses or training
EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
- Ability to customize the GIS software and develop automation scripts and routines
- Experience in production and design of cartography and technical drawing deliverables using GIS software
- Experience with designing, creating, editing, and maintaining GIS data, including shapefiles, coverages, databases, scripts, and metadata for numerous projects
- Working knowledge of relational databases, including database design and maintenance
- Technical experience with design, documentation, implementation and maintenance of GIS standards, processes, procedures and metadata
- QA/QC experience for ensuring data integrity
- Experience with construction and as-built technical plans and drawings
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Cartography or related field.
- Experience with pipeline/utility systems and related technical drawings and mapping, including pipeline alignment drawings
- Working knowledge of engineering stationing, continuous stationing, and station series
- Previous PODS experience
- Ability to customize the GIS software and develop automation scripts and routines
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, including ArcMap 10.x, ArcCatalog and ArcEditor; as well as Google Earth
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD software tools.
- Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection and processing experience (Trimble GPS Equipment/Software)
- Experience with content management systems
- Knowledge of as-built data collection and integration methods and practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access
- Experience with a Pipeline Integrity Management Program

WORKING CONDITIONS
The majority of the work involves working in an office environment; however some field trips are necessary, 10% Travel.
