GIS Coordinator

The GIS Coordinator manages the GIS Support Team within the Technical Services section of the Phoenix Fire Department. The GIS Coordinator supervises technicians who create, modify and update GIS data within Phoenix Fire’s GIS database to support Phoenix Fire’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and its ability to validate location information for over 27 jurisdictions that are dispatched by the Phoenix Fire Department Regional Dispatch Center. The primary role of this position is to provide oversight and supervision to the GIS Support Team by creating and monitoring quality control processes while assisting in the day-to-day GIS data modifications. The GIS Coordinator will also be responsible for developing procedures and training materials for training GIS Technicians and other staff who access Phoenix Fire’s GIS data. In addition, the GIS Coordinator will be tasked with representing the GIS Support Team for all meetings, events or efforts as needed by Phoenix Fire and its many partner agencies.

This recruitment may be used by any department for any current or future vacancies over the life of the eligible list.

RECRUITMENT DATES

SALARY

$57,283 - $85,405 annually.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with geographic information systems.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.
  • Only the highest qualified will be posted to the eligible to hire list.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The job requirements listed above, plus:

  • Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Ability to digitize and data manipulate procedures for GIS.
  • Knowledge of computer systems design and programming.
  • Experience working with a versioned SDE database.
  • Ability to effectively communicate GIS related functions with end-users or staff.
