GIS Coordinator

Summary of Position: 

Plans for and implements all aspects of the City’s GIS-related projects across several City departments. Assists in a variety of complex paraprofessional surveying, engineering, planning, and investigation work.

Major Duties:

  • Assists in the development and management of GIS system including defining requirements, tasks, and resource assignments, ensuring that approved quality levels and deadlines are met.
  • Ensures accurate maintenance of infrastructure records.
  • Manages GIS-related teams of City staff and vendors to ensure that GIS projects objectives and timelines are met.
  • Provides GIS-related technical guidance and assistance to project teams.
  • Maintains Expertise in GIS-related software and technologies and provides guidance on GIS-related standards, equipment, software and procedures.
  • Ensure that City staff using GIS has training and technical support as needed.
  • Performs duties related to City projects, including, but not limited to, research, design estimates, field layouts, redlining, surveying, asset creation, and data analysis.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures. 
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge required:

  • Understands the basic principles of municipal engineering and planning practices.
  • Understands the principles of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Understands the principles of GIS record management.
  • Skill using drafting software and equipment.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of two years of college with course work in basic engineering or two-year technical school graduate with course work in basic engineering or related field.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, namely coursework or on-the-job experience with GIS.
