GIS Consortium- Mapping Technician

The Champaign County GIS Consortium is currently seeking a full-time Mapping Technician.  Under the direction of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Director, this position assists the GIS staff with various annual and long-term projects, data and map requests, and departmental financials. It will involve interaction and cooperation with other County departments, Consortium members and staff, clients, and the public.  It is essential for the Mapping Technician to be organized, detailed oriented, and a self-starter. The incumbent will be required to make informed, rational, and independent judgements.   

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, however previous work experience may be considered as a substitute for degree.
  • Experience or ability to learn how to read and interpret legal descriptions of properties.
  • Experience or ability to learn GIS software (ArcGIS Pro).
  • Ability to learn independently, lead and take ownership of tasks, and manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Possess excellent organizational, analytical, and verbal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee assigned projects related to long-term maintenance of CCGISC data and services.
  • Document and update project workflows
  • Interpret and research land boundaries from legal descriptions.
  • Create GIS maps utilizing accepted cartographic practices and design.
  • Fulfill data orders and general map requests.
  • Assist GIS Director with financial duties and tasks.
  • Initial point of contact for departmental inquiries
  • Procure office supplies and maintain inventory.
  • Other tasks as required by GIS Director
