Manages city maps and sewer assets; Oversees GIS and Asset Management Software; Performs GIS mapping implementation and support duties for the Public Works Director, the Sewer Superintendent, and other City Departments.

  • Provides consultation with coworkers and outside consultants, including implementation of software, use of geospatial tools and techniques to solve problems, training, and support.
  • Develops and coordinates interdepartmental GIS plan(s), budgets, projects, and timelines to achieve goals
  • Oversees, develops, and maintains the delivery of citywide geospatial services, data, and technology to City Departments and the public, including, but not limited to, city limits, zoning maps, land use maps, historic districts, urban renewal areas, election precincts, levees, parks, ROW permits, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, sidewalks, traffic signals, signage, storm sewers, storm BMPs, and street pavement condition.
  • Coordinates GIS data share with other public partners, including, but not limited to, Marshall County and Marshalltown Water Works.
  • Manages the sewer system digital maps including storm and sanitary systems, lateral inspections, and GIS connection to the asset management system;
  • Enters data into the sanitary sewer system asset management system including lateral inspections, TV reports, manhole and pipe segment data, smoke testing data, and other data as provided:
  • Enters and maintains information in the storm sewer system asset management system;
  • Prepares asset management system reports, work orders, and GIS maps to be utilized in the repair and maintenance of the sewer system and to be used by local developers, plumbers, and others;
  • Enters, maintains, develops and modifies the city’s asset management system (originally a George Butler Associates, GBA system – sold to Lucity – sold to Central Square);
  • Enters all repair and maintenance information into the asset management system as work is performed;
  • Coordinates with Engineering to track sewer system construction and repair work to verify all construction records are documented and that permit and connection fees have been paid;
  • Tracks capital project performance and warranty bond information and coordinates warranty review with staff. Works with contractors and plumbers to identify sewer system components;
  • Coordinates city’s MS4 storm water permit implementation, provides direction/training to city’s Storm Water Coordinator, and maintains required record keeping;
  • Prepares reports including writing, gathering information, multimedia applications;
  • Performs secretarial duties, as needed, including answering the telephone, responding to citizen inquires, and reviewing accounts payable;
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops as requested and authorized;
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Performs record keeping for documentation of staff and equipment in natural disaster situations for potential state and federal partnerships and reimbursements.
