Basic Purpose of the Job:
Under general direction creates, maintains and analyzes data for use in maps, reports, decision-making and presentations.  Continued development and maintenance of the City's Asset Management System (Cartegraph) will be a major portion and emphasis for this position. Incumbent also manages internet mapping sites and spatial databases and provides technical support for GIS and asset management users. Integrates data between City Departments and the Asset Management System.    

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for custom GIS software interface including Internet applications, data translation support, custom cartographic products, multimedia, and special document design, development, and production. Includes a high amount of data conversion, application and implementation.
  • Provide support to projects and departments throughout the City and advises and trains users on the use of GIS, asset management and other specialized software.
  • Perform geographic information system application development and input, including editing and analysis, to produce a wide variety of maps, reports and other products from the City's geographic data set, ortho photos, and GPS data.
  • Develop and maintain GIS database using the latest Esri suite of products.
  • Write applications and procedures to expedite and automate system functions; develop and maintain the GIS web page including online mapping applications using various commercial software.
  • Provide support, maintain and assist with integration between GIS, Asset Management and departments and corresponding software products.
  • Provide support to departments throughout the City, advise and train users on the use of Asset Management.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Database Administration, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited college.
    Inventory or Asset Tracking experience preferred.
  • Four years of progressive experience in inventory or asset tracking, computer applications and project implementation involving mapping, database design.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the use of the Esri suite of software and a firm understanding of GIS theory. Working knowledge of Autodesk products, GPS, and MS SQL is preferred.

Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.):

  • Current Colorado driver's license with acceptable record.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens.   Works primarily in clean, comfortable office environment.
