In this role, you’ll perform advanced GIS analysis to support City departments by developing high-quality spatial data, maps, and analytical products. You’ll design and automate geoprocessing workflows using Python, build dynamic web-based GIS applications and dashboards, and collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into effective GIS solutions. This position also supports mission-critical Police Department operations on a rotating on-call basis and offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge GIS and enterprise systems in a fast-paced, public-service environment.

Examples of the Work Performed

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Provides GIS products and solutions in response to customer requests.
  • Maintains spatial databases and performs edits and quality control on enterprise GIS data.
  • Prepares maps, dashboards, reports, and web applications.
  • Performs advanced spatial analysis and data processing.
  • Evaluates and verifies mapping data provided by outside agencies or private sector contractors for accuracy, then modifies and corrects database values as needed.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of automation scripts that support extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data into different systems, as well as automation and scripting of GIS processing, including documenting workflow improvements and time savings.
  • Builds and maintains complex GIS workflows, supporting modern web GIS tools and configurable applications.
  • Applies best practices in map authoring to ensure efficient, scalable, and user-friendly map and feature services.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned consistent with the scope and level of this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Planning, Natural Resources, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience involving GIS analysis, GIS data management, and production of geospatial products.
  • Or any combination of education, training, and progressively responsible experience equivalent to the above minimum requirements.

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • More than 3 years of progressively responsible GIS experience.
  • Esri Technical Certification(s) are a plus.
  • Familiarity with drone-based workflows.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (sUAS drone license) is a plus.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires regular and predictable attendance to support continuity of operations, collaboration with project teams, and consistent progress on long-term GIS initiatives.
  • Effective coordination with stakeholders, and timely completion of assigned deliverables.
