JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the GIS Analyst I assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Development Services Department.

Once additional requirements are met, GIS Analyst I is eligible to be promoted:
GIS Analyst II: $42,815 - $60,979/YR DOQ

Salary amount offered will depend on qualifications. This is a non-exempt position.  

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assembles data from various sources to develop, update, and maintain GIS datasets. 
• Analyzes spatial locations and organizes layers of information into visualizations using maps and 3-dimensional scenes.
• Completes shapefile data requests; creates spreadsheets using attribute data; completes map requests.
• Responds to internal and external questions regarding GIS.
• Works on special projects as assigned. 
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard office environment. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines: 
Bachelor’s degree in Cartography, GIS, or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

Knowledge of: 

• Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. 
• General office policies, procedures, and practices. 
• Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures.
• Mapping principles. 
• Database design and management. 
• GIS systems and aerial photography.
• ESRI ArcGIS software products.
• Coordinate geometry and georeferencing.
• Basic principles of global positioning systems.

Skill in:

• Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines. 
• Creating and updating spreadsheets.
• Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
• Maintaining accurate records and filing systems. 
• Preparing clear and concise reports. 
• Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.  
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

A valid State driver's license is required.
