Spend your days 

  • Verifying the accuracy,completeness, and consistency of geospatial datasets through systematic analysis and comparison
  • Writing clear, concise, and reliable reports based on the research done through spatial mapping software
  • Presenting to federal clients on your findings from geospatial analysis
  • Training and mentoring data analysts and other supporting staff on geographic information systems,informing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices
  • Providing technical support to transit-industry contacts to assist in meeting federal requirements
  • Managing your own digital library by extracting and organizing data
  • Staying up to date on the dynamic world of GIS technology by reading journals and participating in workshops regarding the same
  • Identifying and resolving errors or anomalies within geospatial datasets by utilizing automated data validation tools and developing your own GIS-based methods
  • Collaborating effectively with analysts, transit subject matter experts, and external GIS specialists to address data collection challenges and improve data quality

Bring with you

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) from an accredited school in GIS, geography, surveying, civil engineering, urban planning or similar discipline.
  • Minimum three years prior experience working in a GIS or geographic data-intensive capacity
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and accurately disseminate information.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to obtain clean background check.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.
  • A customer service mindset.
  • Interest in public transportation industry.
  • Proficiency in transit-related geographic open data formats and standards including the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS)
  • Experience working with software such as ArcGIS, CAD, JavaScript, Python (e.g., Geopandas, GDAL), or other comparable geodata/GIS software
  • Knowledge of relevant geospatial data standards and best practices and experience in conducting quality assurance checks on geospatial data
  • Demonstrable experience writing and presenting on your analyses
  • Microsoft Office fluency
  • Preferred but not required are experiences: in the public transportation industry, with using Jira software,and in writing SQL queries

Location

This is an office-based telecommuting position. This position is designed to be eligible for up to full time telecommuting, but personnel must reside in either Virginia or Washington, D.C.. Your base work location will be BCG’s office located in downtown Charlottesville.
