About the Position: 
In this role, the successful candidate will lead and support the City's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, collaborating with various departments. They will oversee GIS projects, setting priorities and ensuring the GIS system's integrity and accuracy. The role involves managing data inputs, conducting advanced GIS data editing, spatial analysis, and providing expertise in GIS automation, scripting, and SQL database analysis. The individual will create and manage sophisticated GIS databases and digital mapping, producing resources for both internal and external stakeholders. They will also be responsible for city-wide GIS application maintenance, including software coding for GIS solutions, and web applications. The position requires coordinating critical data input and maintenance, designing reporting tools, and resolving technical issues. Additionally, the candidate will train staff and the community on GIS applications, write technical documentation, and modify databases for GIS data storage.

Information Technology (IT) is an internal services department delivering technology solutions that help the City of Grand Junction team to do their best work. The 26 member IT team supports cybersecurity, networking and telecommunications, computer and application support, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The IT team is committed to providing secure, reliable, and sustainable technology solutions for efficiently and effectively delivering City services that enhance the lives of our citizens.

Duties

What You'll Do:

  • Provide support and leadership to staff working on the GIS team and other City departments.
  • Plan and schedule GIS projects.
  • Ensure integrity, quality and accuracy of the City's GIS system.
  • Manage and review data input from GIS staff and other departments.
  • Provide City-wide maintenance and support of GIS related applications, source code, data files, database system, and internet/intranet web data.
  • Write software code for GIS applications, scripts, web apps, and geospatial analysis
  • This position has the same classification as a Systems Network Analyst.

Qualifications
This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drugscreens due to the nature of the work performed.

What We're Looking For: 

  • Four (4) years of GIS experience in a variety of GIS functions related to described duties.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in information technology, GIS, computer science or a related field. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license. 
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
