The Geospatial Technician III is a senior-level position within the Aerial department, responsible for overseeing complex geospatial projects and leading advanced data collection, analysis, and management activities. This role demands a high level of expertise in GIS technologies and methodologies, with a focus on strategic project execution, innovation, and team leadership. The Geospatial Technician III will play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring junior team members, optimizing GIS processes, and contributing to the organization’s strategic initiatives through expert-level geospatial solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Data Handling
  • Accurately process and evaluate geospatial data, ensuring adherence to industry standards and client specifications.

LiDAR Expertise
  • Perform lidar calibration, classification, and filtering to create derivative geospatial products.

3D Modeling
  • Generate high-quality 3D point clouds and orthomosaic images using Structure from Motion Photogrammetric processing.

Software Proficiency
  • Demonstrate expertise in industry-standard software, including LP360, LAStools, GlobalMapper, ArcPro, Pix4D, and Civil 3D.

Team Leadership
  • Serve as a team leader, overseeing the efficient processing of geospatial data throughout project lifecycles.

Quality Assurance
  • Perform rigorous quality assurance and quality control on datasets to verify their completeness and accuracy prior to delivery.

Data Collection and Entry
  • Supervise and execute advanced geospatial data collection efforts using cutting-edge technologies, including UAVs (drones), LiDAR, and high-precision GPS systems.
  • Oversee the integration of diverse data sources into GIS databases, ensuring comprehensive and accurate data representation.
  • Implement and enforce advanced quality control protocols to maintain the highest data accuracy and consistency standards.

Map Creation and Editing
  • Develop and refine high-level, complex maps and geospatial products using GIS software, ensuring they meet sophisticated project requirements and stakeholder needs.
  • Utilize innovative cartographic techniques and best practices to produce visually compelling and functionally effective maps.

Data Analysis
  • Conduct and supervise high-level spatial analysis tasks, including predictive modeling, spatial interpolation, and multi-dimensional data analysis.
  • Generate and present strategic reports and visualizations that provide actionable insights and support decision-making processes.

Database Management
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of geospatial databases, ensuring scalability, security, and adherence to best practices.
  • Ensure comprehensive and up-to-date metadata management and documentation for all geospatial datasets and projects.

Fieldwork Support
  • Lead and manage field data collection operations, including advanced equipment deployment and coordination of field teams.
  • Develop and enforce field protocols and safety procedures, ensuring high standards of data quality and team safety.

Technical Support and Innovation
  • Provide expert-level technical support for GIS software, hardware, and data-related issues, troubleshooting complex problems and implementing solutions.
  • Identify and drive process improvements and innovations in GIS technologies and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain detailed records of project activities, data collection processes, and technical procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver high-level technical documentation, reports, and presentations that effectively communicate project outcomes and geospatial insights.

Collaboration and Leadership
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, providing support, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Work closely with other departments and teams to understand their geospatial needs and deliver tailored solutions that drive organizational success.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Cartography, Remote Sensing, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with GIS principles, cartography, spatial analysis, and advanced geospatial technologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms, with experience in integrating and managing complex datasets.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using advanced data collection tools, including UAVs, LiDAR, and high-precision GPS systems.
  • Proven experience in project management, including resource allocation, scheduling, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex technical issues and drive process improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for fieldwork activities.
