We are seeking a Geospatial Technical Specialist to support the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in New Orleans, LA. This role provides entry-level technical and analytical support across geospatial data, data management, and related program activities in support of BOEM’s offshore energy mission.


Responsibilities
  • Performs geospatial data processing, validation, and quality assurance activities to support program datasets, including reviewing spatial data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with established standards.
  • Extracts, interprets, and processes geospatial and technical data from a variety of sources, including maps, surveys, and digital records, and supports georeferencing and spatial feature creation.
  • Supports routine technical activities in accordance with established procedures and guidance, including data organization, digitization, and documentation.
  • Assists with research, analysis, and evaluation of data sources to support project requirements and technical objectives.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of documentation, including standard operating procedures, data handling guidelines, and technical references.
  • Interfaces with team members and users to support data-related activities and may assist with user support or training as needed.
  • Uses established tools, applications, and systems to perform assigned tasks, including geospatial software, databases, and standard office tools.
  • Complies with applicable standards, processes, and organizational requirements while working under supervision and guidance.

Required Qualifications
 

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience solving computer, business, scientific, engineering, or other discipline-related system or process problems, with exposure to information technology concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to the assignment.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with commonly used tools, methodologies, or processes within a technical or geospatial environment, and the ability to follow instructions and established guidelines while working under supervision.
  • Exposure to or familiarity with Government or industry processes, procedures, standards, methodologies, or tools related to technical or data-focused assignments.
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or other applicable discipline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of the Interior (DOI) Public Trust.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with geospatial data, GIS tools, or mapping applications such as ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with geospatial concepts including projections, coordinate systems, georeferencing, and spatial data structures.
  • Experience supporting data quality, data entry, or data management activities.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel or similar data analysis tools.
  • Exposure to Federal programs, environmental data, or offshore energy-related datasets.
