The Role
InterDev is seeking a Geospatial Solutions Technician for a 6-month temporary assignment with the potential for full-time employment based on performance and business needs. This position supports our highly collaborative GIS Team and offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced GIS professionals who provide high-quality GIS products and services to municipal governments.
This is a temporary hourly position and is not eligible for company benefits during the temporary assignment period.
Geospatial Solutions Technicians possess and develop a broad base of GIS knowledge that includes hands-on experience with desktop GIS software (ex. ArcGIS or QGIS), knowledge of GIS data types, ArcGIS Online, GPS collection, relational database management systems (RDBMS), spatial analysis, and cartography. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, who demonstrates a passion for leveraging GIS technology to solve unique problems.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with development of GIS data to be utilized for public and internal access.
- Maintain key datasets including addresses, parcels, roads, and city assets as well as all other existing and future datasets.
- Perform spatial analysis and create information products utilizing GIS geoprocessing tools.
- Assist in user experience testing of web applications.
- Capture GIS data in different formats using GPS, electronic data recorders, digitizers, and other means.
- Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy, identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data.
- Interpret detailed plans, photographs, maps, and legal descriptions, including addresses, roads, storm water systems, and city assets.
- Help to improve GIS standards, policies and procedures as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Knowledge in geography, scientific methods, cartography, and GIS principles.
- Knowledge in mapping packages such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, or QGIS.
- Knowledge of, or experience with SQL for querying spatial and non-spatial data.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot software problems.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions, prioritize a list of tasks, and communicate progress and results.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to work indiscriminately with various individuals regardless of their race, color, creed, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by state, federal, or local law.
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience such as GIS Certificate or post-secondary degree with related experience or coursework.
- 0-2 years of relevant professional GIS experience.
- Exposure to government operations, city planning, or related field.
- Exposure to land records and/or reading and interpreting plats and surveys.
- Familiarity with applying extract, transform, and load processes to spatial and tabular data, such as using FME or programming.
- Volunteer experience a plus.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office setting and involves regular use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.
Physical Demands
The role is primarily desk-based, with extended periods of sitting and regular use of a computer and telephone. Occasional physical tasks may include lifting or moving light materials (up to 15 pounds).
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time temporary position expected to last approximately six months, with the potential for regular full-time employment at the end of the term based on performance and business needs.
Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with scheduling flexibility based on project requirements. This role has requirements for in-person work.
Compensation is hourly and paid through InterDev’s regular payroll process based on approved timesheets. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Candidate must successfully complete background screening and drug screening upon acceptance of position.
