About this Opportunity    
Updates and maintains a wide variety of Enterprise-wide Geographic Information System Databases, creates maps, responds to customer requests for geospatial data. Essential functions include, Use of the ArcGIS Software Suite. Develops, configures, initializes, and maintains department specific asset/infrastructure management programs.  Drives the work load of the field crew.  Provides technical support to the assigned department.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

I/II:

  • Digitizes, maintains, and analyzes geographic data. Recommends and implements efficiencies and enhancements.
  • Creates, administers, and updates infrastructure preventative maintenance programs. Designs, configures, implements, and maintains asset management programs for department specific infrastructure.
  • Provide support to departmental staff with service requests and work flows using the GIS-based asset management software.
  • Researches and compiles infrastructure and related data from hard copy maps, engineering drawings, and database tables for entry into GIS.
  • Updates, verifies, and maintains GIS database and tables.
  • Provides technical support to departmental staff in the development of infrastructure management programs.
  • Directs and performs field location and verifies proper identification of City infrastructure.
  • Utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment and software to collect, record, and download field data to the GIS.
  • Provides support for field personnel regarding the locations of infrastructure features.
  • Performs or coordinates update, maintenance, and repair of GIS, GPS, and related hardware and software.
  • Operates various engineering survey instruments for determination of precise location of transportation system features.
  • Maintains survey equipment and performs regular calibration to ensure accuracy of results.
  • Performs related work as required.

III:

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

I:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Planning, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field and
  • One (1)  year of experience in GIS Feature Creation, Database Maintenance, SQL and Python, Esri Products (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcPro, etc.), ArcGIS Online, cartographic experience or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

II:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Planning, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field and
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in GIS Feature Creation, Database Maintenance, SQL and Python, Esri Products (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcPro, etc.), ArcGIS Online, cartographic experience or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

III:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Planning, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field and
  • Three to five years of experience in GIS Feature Creation, Database Maintenance, SQL and Python, Esri Products (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcPro, etc.), ArcGIS Online, and cartographic experience or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

I/II/III:

Required Licenses or Certifications

May be required to obtain Iowa NCIC certification based on work assignment

III Only:
Desired Qualifications

  • Geographic Information System Professional Certification

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm

Salary:

  • I: $25.90- $34.98 hourly
  • II: $27.73- $37.43 hourly
  • III: $29.66- $40.05 hourly
