What We Are Seeking: 
The Iowa Department of Public Defense (DPD) is recruiting to fill an Information Technology Specialist 5 position, (Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Administrator), within the Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) of the Iowa Army National Guard located at Camp Dodge, 7105 NW 70th Ave, Johnston, IA 50131.

What You'll Do:
The GIS Administrator will work alongside civilians and soldiers in support of Iowa Army National Guard facilities and environmental management programs. You will be joining an experienced and dedicated team of professionals within the Installation Geospatial Information and Services (IGI&S) section, whose task is to develop and maintain high quality geospatial data and applications for military facilities and training lands in the State of Iowa.

As the GIS Administrator, you will be responsible for implementing and improving an established GIS program built on an ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise deployment.  

Responsibilities include: administering GIS server components including a multiuser Oracle geodatabase, ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS; building, testing and deploying map services and web viewers;   developing custom software solutions and tools for the automation of tasks and workflows; producing digital and hard copy mapping products;  performing GIS analysis projects; developing and maintaining GIS data using a variety of collection methods - including field survey, remote sensing and on-screen digitizing; ensuring the quality of work of part time soldiers and interns performing GIS support tasks; coordinating with other information technology professionals in the organization to ensure compliance with network security and system requirements; planning for the future GIS needs of the agency and making recommendations to leadership.

This is an in-office (not remote) position located at the Camp Dodge military reservation.  Strong communication skills, attention to detail and an attitude of excellence are required for this position.  A valid driver's license is required for the position as some in-state overnight travel will be involved and occasionally training to out-of-state locations.

Also, a basic background check will be conducted, which is a requirement for the selectee to obtain a common access card (CAC). The CAC allows the selectee to access the federal computer networks that host CFMO data and applications.
