Geographic Information System Analyst III

GIS Analyst

Designs and produces selected thematic map data and applications of moderate difficulty and complexity and participates in the design and maintenance of the GIS database; and performs other related duties as required.

Current vacancy: Supports the Honolulu Board of Water Supply's GIS program by working under general supervision to assist in the design and maintenance of its GIS database; designing, developing, and testing GIS tools and extensions; and designing and producing custom, multi-layered thematic maps and applications of moderate difficulty and complexity using the GIS software.

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in physical or natural science, geography,engineering, planning, computer science or a related field.

Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

One year of experience using GIS software in the design and production of thematic maps and other applications.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the concepts and principles of GIS: geography as it applies to GIS; mapping, cartography, surveying and photogrammetry; GIS and relational database management concepts and theories; operations, characteristics and capabilities of various types of GIS computer and peripheral equipment; and the ability to analyze, correlate and evaluate thematic map data and records; and prepare maps, graphics, data printouts and written reports.

Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

License Requirement: Valid Hawaii State driver's license prior to appointment.
