This position leads the Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division in Pima County's Conservation Lands and Resources Department.  The Division manages 175 miles of single-track trails, 1 campground, special events, volunteers and large natural resouce parks including Tucson Mountain Park, the Historic Canoa Ranch and Agua Caliente Park, all having conservtion protections.  There are about 30 staff in the Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division including trails planners, park operations, and special event and campground coordinators.

Using geospatial data to manage conservation lands and related systems is foundational to the planning and operations of the Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division.  For example, trail system maintenance is tracked using a GIS application built within the department; campground analytics are being developed to make operational decisions; infrastructure including arboriculture, irrigation, fleet, paving, ponds, and historic buildings need to be inventoried and tracked for replacement, repairs, renovations and to develop a strategic 5 and 10-year look ahead.

The Division Manager is part of a team that provides leadership to the Conservation Lands and Resources Department.  This Division Manager over the Parks and Trails Division works closely with the other Division Managers (Cultural Resources, Conservation Science, Ranches, and Business Services) as well as the Director and Deputy Director to provide strategic visioning for the department, assess organizational structures, respond to elected officials and County leadership, establish policies and procedures, collaborate with other Pima County departments and other jurisdictions, and establish partnerships with non-proftis and volunteer groups. The Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division Manager reports to the Deputy Director of the Conservation Lands and Resources Department.

Leading the Natural Resources Parks and Trails Divison includes personnel management, policy enforcement, and disciplinary processes.  The Division Manager ensures that the Parks and Trails team has a positive working environment that encourages training opportunities, career development, mentoring and potential for advancement.
