Responsible for providing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) management, analysis, guidance, and technical support to internal stakeholders utilizing GIS.

  • Meet with internal stakeholders to identify needs and assist with issue resolution; reviews priorities and assignments to ensure alignment with stakeholder needs and project.
  • Coordinate GIS projects with users for deadline requirements.
  • Uses ArcGIS products and other necessary tools to maintain Geodatabases.
  • Complete GIS data entry, data validation and perform maintenance of current GIS databases.
  • Lead the design and development of enterprise geographic information systems, including but not limited to, linking facility maps with data to produce maps.
  • Write macro-level commands to meet high priority GIS needs.
  • Recommend and establish standards and procedures to handle the production of high priority data, maps, and services.
  • Design, coordinate, and prepare representations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases, as appropriate for project.
  • Provide technical matter information to individuals with little or no background in the subject matter; verify understanding and comprehension of shared material. 
  • Ensure decisions and recommendations are in accordance with policy and guidelines.
  • Perform analyses to solve complex spatial problems and use innovative solutions to improve efficiencies. 
  • Maintain statistical reports for information purposes; troubleshoot issues and document, as appropriate. 
  • Stay up to date on the latest GIS technologies and innovation.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field; and,
  • One (1) year experience in a spatial data creation and/or maintenance environment, or related field,
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
  • Must meet the Civilian Hiring Standards of the Denton Police Department

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals. 
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 10 pounds.
  • Environment: Works in an office setting; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work after normal business hours and weekends, as needed.
  • Must attend regularly scheduled and special meetings.
