This is professional work to assist the Development Services Department by providing technical expertise in the development and maintenance of the City's computer-generated land-based databases using a Geographic Information System (GIS), and utilizing GIS/CADD/GPS hardware and or software. The Assistant Planner-GIS Specialist is part of the Long-Range Planning team within the Planning and Zoning Division and works closely with the GIS Analyst and the Permitting Supervisor in the Building Division.

- Prepare or complete various GIS/map data forms using computer aided drafting (CAD) and geographic information system (GIS) software programs, which may include reports, correspondence, thematic maps, utility and utility as-built inventory maps, facilities maps, hurricane preparedness maps, road centerline files, statistical analysis, presentation materials, or other documents
- Manage and update the City's addressing database by coordinating with the public, Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's Office, and other City departments to establish and maintain addresses for new properties or developments
- Assist the public and employees with the retrieval of all as-built documents and data through a database GIS mapping program, property appraiser's website, clerk and comptroller website, various city plats, and aerial and map atlas
- Operate and maintain data in the City's geographic information system (GIS); update data in GIS enterprise database; enter data from various sources into GIS system; assist the Planner-GIS Analyst in maintaining the accuracy of GIS data related to planning functions, such as Land Use Map and Zoning Map amendments
- Perform quality control checks on GIS data layers to ensure they meet specifications
- Inspect graphic and attribute information to find logical inconsistencies with the data and to ensure data validity
- Update utility inventory mapping and data
- Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, users, user groups, consultants, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems
- Collect, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display geographically referenced information; electronically manipulate data files by importing, exporting, creating, recalling, editing, or updating data; store and retrieve archived data
- Maintain and update the City's addressing database
- Perform analysis using spatial data tools
- Foster positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
Employees in this position are required to pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100, IS-700, and IS-922 within 30 days of employment and will be required to participate in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during activation.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban Planning, GIS, Geography, or closely related field.
- Three (3) years' experience in GIS or one (1) year of GIS experience plus two (2) years of experience working for a municipality in planning, code enforcement, permitting, or plan review.

Supplemental Information
- Knowledge of and experience using Adobe Illustrator or related graphic software for enhancing quality of GIS maps.
- Demonstrated proficiency using pertinent software applications such as ArcMap, ArcGIS, Pro, R, FSUTMS (Cube Voyager, Trans CAD, VISSUM)
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Experience with analytics platforms and best practices as well as maintaining and editing GIS databases.
