Gainesville Regional Utilities’ (GRU) Energy Delivery Department is seeking a Utility GIS Technician to provide Electric and Gas Utility GIS mapping support. The position will report to the Utility Project Team Leader III for Energy Delivery GIS in the Work and Resource Management department while working closely with staff across GRU’s Energy Delivery Division. The nature of this work is to provide technical support applying geographic information systems technology to specific disciplinary areas of utilities including applying the principles of geomatics as it relates to automated mapping and facilities management (AM/FM) systems.
This technical position will support a wide variety of GRU staff that use the utility-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) for planning, design, construction, maintenance, inventory, as-built posting, and analysis of GRU’s Electric and Gas system. The position will also provide support to help departments across Energy Delivery move into the next generation of the Esri ArcGIS Enterprise platform. Energy Delivery is moving from the Geometric Network Data Model to the new Utility Network Data Model. Energy Delivery is also expanding the use of Trimble’s Cityworks work and asset management system which is tightly integrated with the ArcGIS Enterprise platform. This position will support moving to a fully automated field mobile solution using native apps included with the Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and Trimble’s Citywork system. The candidate will be required to work in a team environment with other technical staff, demonstrate office and field working capabilities, and provide support to end users as a technical subject matter expert.
Minimum Requirements for the position include graduation from an accredited two year college or university with major course work in Geomatics, Surveying and Mapping, Geography, GIS,CADD, or related field and one year progressively responsible experience in utilities mapping or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Florida Drivers license is required.

As a Utility GIS Technician, the candidate will bridge the gap between business processes and technology solutions. The candidate should have strong technical skills, and a familiarity with Cityworks and ArcGIS Enterprise. The ability to think critically will be requirements for success. The Utility GIS Technician will be expected to work as part of a team and will regularly interface with colleagues, Managers, Supervisors, Engineers, IT Support staff, Cityworks Technical Support, Esri Technical Support and a variety of end-users across many City departments.
The successful candidate will assist the primary technical administrator of Energy Delivery’s GIS and the work & asset management system that supports the Electric & Gas utilities. The candidate should be able to assess the suitability of information system configurations and work with end users and IT staff to achieve desired outcomes.
The ideal candidate will also assist the primary administrator for all enhancements and continued improvements of the existing Cityworks and ArcGIS systems. The candidate will work closely with Cityworks and ArcGIS users and stakeholders.

NATURE OF WORK
Professional and technical work applying geographic information systems technology to specific disciplinary areas of utilities including applying the principles of geomatics as it relates to automated mapping and facilities management (AM/FM) systems.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor in a specific disciplinary area and work under limited supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its limited supervisory responsibilities and from lower classes by its emphasis on geomatics and utility mapping applications.
Graduation from an accredited two year college or university with major course work in Geomatics, Surveying and Mapping, Geography, GIS,CADD, or related field and one year progressively responsible experience in utilities mapping or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Florida Driver's License required.
Physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform all essential job functions.
Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.
