The University of Miami’s Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS) is currently seeking an image analyst / tasking specialist to support satellite remote sensing operations. Responsibilities will include analyzing image data and producing standard and customized products as well as developing and submitting satellite task orders in support of satellite remote sensing operations. This includes supporting acquisition of real-time new and archive data for scientific research and operational projects, emergency response in the event of natural and man-made disasters, and commercial opportunities. Also includes ownership of data flow throughout its lifecycle, from developing data acquisition plans relevant to project or customer needs, submitting the developed plans, processing acquired data to levels of standard and custom products, exploiting data using COTS and in-house analysis tools, and disseminating the data/results. Additionally, this includes tracking the flow of the data for account reconciliation, and maintaining the extensive data archives at CSTARS by running quality checks on data and maintaining access lists.
The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive GIS background with preference given to candidates with satellite and image processing experience. This position requires the ability to produce standard products as well as respond to changing requirements by creating customized, value-added products. This position also requires the ability to learn and use multiple proprietary satellite planning and data acquisition tools.
