ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Software Development Specialist 2 within the Office of Information Technology, headquartered at Fountain Square, assigned to Franklin County. What you will do…

  • The Primary Technology for this position is: GIS, Python (ArcPy)
  • Develops software applications & performs analysis & design
  • Performs post production support for business applications which may include routine maintenance, enhancements & need to perform research to aid in troubleshooting software production errors
  • Supports, maintains and develops customized applications that utilize (i.e., Python, html,
  • ArcGIS JavaScript API, Dojo, .NET API, Esri ArcObjects and JQuery, MS SQL Server 2016,
  • ArcGIS Online Arcade and Esri’s ArcGIS App Studio Qt)
  • Writes scripts & schedules jobs (Python and .NET API) to execute programs
  • Supports Esri GIS desktop & server applications

Qualifications

Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 24 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and performing systems analysis, developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications recommending application solutions and/or testing and correcting programs as it relates to testing and implementation and assisting with documentation including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting (GIS).

-Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 30 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and performing systems analysis, developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications recommending application solutions and/or testing and correcting programs as it relates to testing and implementation and assisting with documentation including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting (GIS).

-Or 48 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and performing systems analysis, developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications recommending application solutions and/or testing and correcting programs as it relates to testing and implementation and assisting with documentation including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting (GIS).

-Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Knowledge of: computer & electronics; oral & written communication tools & techniques; software development principles & methods [design, testing, development, & implementation] of new or modified software, commonly used query language, mathematic principles relative to assigned area in IT; IT principles, methods & practices in assigned specialty area (Geographical Information Services [GIS]); technical writing & documentation practices; Public Relations [customer support & personal service]; (Agency Policies & Procedures (department, division [vision, mission & goals of agency])*; government structure & process (federal, state, local)*.

Skilled in: reading comprehension, troubleshooting, critical thinking, complex problem solving; Word Processing [Systems and Applications] (operation systems [Windows 10, Windows Server 2016] computer programming techniques & languages, (Python, html, ArcGIS JavaScript API, Dojo, .NET API, Esri ArcObjects and JQuery, MS SQL Server 2016, ArcGIS Online Arcade and Esri’s ArcGIS App Studio Qt); Equipment Operations (operation of computer peripheral equipment ).

Ability to: define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; use proper research methods in gathering data; prepare & deliver speeches before specialized audiences & general public; gather, collate & classify information about data, people & things; stay abreast of current technologies in assigned area of IT.
